About Tony

Opera Singer | Vocal Coach | Recording Artist | Entertainer

An Opera Sensation

Born as Antoni Garfield-Henry in St Albans Hertfordshire, Tony's love for the stage was apparent from a young age. At 18 years old he attended the Rambert School of Ballet in London and graduated in 1984, joining the cast of Starlight Express at the Apollo Theatre Victoria in 1985 where he flourished in numerous leading roles over a 5 year period and really came into his own as a performer.

During 1988 Antoni decided to focus on his acting and completed a post-graduate course at The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA). It was here that Antoni was first introduced to opera singers while playing the role of 'Joe,' in Carmen Jones at the Old Vic. With their encouragement and an enthusiastic Henry Lewis setting up an introduction to the renowned opera coach Ludmilla Andrew, Antoni made the first exciting steps towards his new career.

With Ludmilla's help and guidance, Antoni became a Peter Moore's Scholar, gaining access to further support and funding for vocal coaching, language study, singing lessons and the freedom to perform with Opera companies during his studies. Antoni's operatic debut was in 1995 singing the role of Luigi in Il Tabarro with Broomhill Opera.

Over the years Antoni has performed most of the leading tenor roles with The European Chamber Opera, English Touring Opera, Castleward Opera, Opera North and a number of Raymond Gubbay productions at the Royal Albert Hall.

Tony has performed for the likes of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth, His Royal Highness the Prince Edward, David and Victoria Beckham, Charlize Theron and many more.  Tony's voice has taken him all over the world and has beckoned in several events such as performing for a live audience of over 1 million people at the Bradenburg Gate in Berlin on New Years Eve in 2009. He has also performed as part of the 'Night of the Proms,' tour to rapturous receptions all over Europe in every major city.

Modern Arias

Antoni landed his first record deal with Warner Bros in 2002 and released Modern Arias in 2003. On signing his contract Antoni agreed to shorten his stage name “Tony Henry” and has been known as Tony Henry ever since.
